"ANKA"

ANKA and her owners are often questioned about what her name means and what type of dog she is. The answer is obvious and people are often amazed by the reply. Look at her picture - what does she look like to you? Aside from a Polar Bear, Anka looks just like a big, white German Shepherd. Hence, the name. Isn't it an incredible coincidence that there is such a German word that describes a dog so perfectly?

You may say that there are no such things as a white German Shepherd. Many have suggested that she is a wolf or something else. Well, if she's not a Shepherd, then her owners contend that she is a Polar Bear or a life-sized, motorized, stuffed animal from FAO Schwartz.

Anka is well-known to many of her friends, canine or otherwise, at Fort Funston. As one of her owners put it, how many big, White German Shepherds, who have Chinese parents, are there? She can often be seen chasing down small, white fluff balls (aka dogs) or nudging impolitely at pockets filled with cookies, but always having a great time. Generally, Anka is the friendliest and sweetest dog in the park and is anxious to see her friends. After all, it's a dog's life.

"JAKE"

Jake was born March 5, 1991. Jake is a Australian Cattle Dog, he is the lone male in a litter of 7 pups. Of course he fought with his sisters but they taught him the need (especially later) of treating females with love and respect. To this day however, he remains generally grumpy around other males, and eagerly participates in any flexing/growling/hair on back raising that needs to be accomplished in their presence. His hobbies are pine cones, Frisbee and cat chasing. He enjoys table snacks, long walks in the park, sleeping on the bed, and rolling on the ground. Jake is single and is currently seeking a mate.

"TANGO"

Tango was born in January 1991, he is a German Shepherd with a touch of Husky.

Tango wanted to write this himself so, here it is. I share my house in San Francisco with my pack which is three guys. They all spoil me, and I love it. They are all great cooks which has turned me into California's only Gourmet dog. A perfect evening for me is having barbecued bones, and always following a great meal, I take a nap by the fireplace on my favorite rug while the guys eat their meals. I usually hang out at a Douglas Park where my attitude varies from total aloofness, when I am surrounded by the usual gang, to shyness and terror when little humans invade the park, to a total cocky bully when new (especially small doggies) arrive at the park.

My hobby is stealing toys from other dogs, MY BIGGEST WORRY IS THAT MY MASTER DANIEL WANTS TO BE THE DOG IN HIS NEXT LIFE. HOWEVER, WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT!

"Rusty"

Rusty lives in Guerneville with Buddy and his owner Rich. Each year they keep each other company as the floods confine them to their house. They feel the storms and the rains give them a chance to have quality time together. Usually it lasts for a few days so afterwards they are ready to get on with life until the next year.

"KRISTINE & NIKKI"

KRISTINE:

Kristine was born March 31, 1988 in Yuba City, California. Kristine, nickname Teenie, Is the terror of the local park (South San Francisco). She doesn't share anything. She is very manipulating, and she gives the name "Bitch" real meaning. On the other hand, she's loving, loves to swim, loves to play tug of war and loves her human mommy and daddy. Even though she is deaf in one ear she doesn't let that get in the way of being a obedient doggie. At night there's nothing finer then to hop on the couch, lie there and watch Nikki do his thing to a pillow and listen to mom and dad converse. Last count Kristine had 101 spots.

Nikki:

Nikki was born October 5 1992 in Half Moon Bay, California. Nikki's nickname is Nik-O-Louse; he is a liver spotted Dalmatian and knows each of his toys by name. He is extremely shy of bathing and he hates swimming. When he hears the bath water running he runs and hides as fast as he can move. His pillow is his best friend and companion for life. Other than these things, Kikki is the best little dog in the world. He loves attention and still is young enough to have that wonder about him.

Hannah

Hannah is as sweet as her name sounds. She was found by the SPCA in Palo Alto when she was only 3 months old and adopted by the Morales family in March 1989 which made them a family of eight (counting Kitty). Hannah’s birthday is on Christmas and she turned 9 years old last Christmas (’96).

Hannah doesn’t have a mean bone in her body (with the exception of her rage for the two dogs that live close by). She fits in well with all the family and guests in her busy household. She loves to go on car rides. When she is home she likes to stay at her lookout post (stair landing) and watch what’s happening outside or she keeps on top of things in the yard.

Recently Hannah had knee surgery but came out of it like a real trouper. She would do well to drop a couple of pounds off her 45 lb. frame to help her knee. Maybe her family will make New Year’s resolutions to go out on daily walks!
